How to learn Fusion 360 CAM – Basic –

Fusion 360 CAM cadcamstuff
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” – Zig Ziglar.

Sometimes things just happens for a reason. Today has to be one of those days.
Carl Bass, CEO of Autodesk, wrote a great article earlier today named:
How and Why We’re Building Fusion

Zig’s quote above is one of my favorites. You simply have to start! But the title of Carl’s article also holds the important keys: Why? and How. When you are trying to learn something new, you should always start with the “Why?” then you can move on to the “How”.

Most CAM videos are “How”…This one is different…
In this 5 chapter video series we are not just trying to show the “How”, but also the “Why”.

Are you ready to start with Fusion 360 CAM?

Nicely done. I want to teach this to our Disabled Vets. I am trying to organize it now but have not gotten any replies back and I think I waited long enough. I have to redouble my efforts and look for some people higher on the ladder. What kind of a 3 Axis Mill Router is supported by this CAM program, that I can easily transport to a school to do demonstrations with it? I know there are some small desktop units out there but every time I ask about that I never get an answer. My own Laguna Swift 3 Axis Mill Router weighs in at 3600 lbs. and that is too big and heavy to be moving around. I’m all ears.

  • Hi Corporal Willy. Send me an email at, I might be able to connect you with the right people to move this forward. I love the idea!

Okay I did send you a reply with PDF’s and Pictures about what I do here as a volunteer in our schools. Teaching at the college and being a Techie Type on some things that I can help out with. Hope you got it, but if you didn’t let me know. You have my private email address. Bye,

  • Thank you so much for what you do. You are a true inspiration! You will find an email from me that I hope will turn out to be helpful on your mission.

Thank you Mr. Christensen. I can only try. So far I have struck out but this old Marine does not quit. I will keep on trying and the last card I will play is to write the White House to get some action. I really did not want to do that so I will follow up with other things I can try like your lead before doing that. I will keep you updated. Bye,

I am using fusion 360 to model parts with a circular pocket. The CAM part of the program outputs G3s for the helical into the pocket and then outputs hundreds of short XY moves for the circular pocket. Is it possible for fusion 360 to output G2/G3 moves for the circular pocket?
